Why a Bergamasco?

Is it the breed for me?

Bergamascos are wonderful dogs, with calm and gentle temperaments. As natural herding dogs, they love children and treat them like their own pups, protecting, loving and caring for them - Bergamascos make the perfect family dog. They love attention; they want to be with you, to play with you, be exercised daily and be mentally challenged. Bergamascos are also great with other dogs of any breed, little or large, and even cats.

These dogs are strong minded and, at time, can be a little stubborn - from my years of experience with them, you need to be firm, but gentle, and find what drives them. I've had Bergamascos who will not do anything they don't feel like doing, no matter what food you try to lure them with, and have also had some that will sell their soul for any treat at all! Training them well is key.

As with any good guard dog, these dogs do bark - they will bark to warn you when someone nears your home, when the postman is here, a delivery, a stranger, other dogs, to have a chat with the birds in the garden, and with each other... they have protective instincts and barking is part of that. Bergamascos are incredibly playful, love to run around and interact with other dogs, but equally are capable of entertaining themselves with a rope or chew toy for hours. They have huge personalities which is what makes them much more than just a pet, they become a part of your family.

Bergamascos provide unconditional love, and are sure to make you smile on a daily, if not hourly basis. They are very special creatures - we are so lucky to have them in our lives.
